Growing up with the stories and folklore of our forefathers we deeply value the importance of our heritage, heritage sights, and nature.

Yet, as these stories were told, clouds of black smoke flowed over and around us from unmitigated waste management disasters. The explosive growth in tourism swiftly outpaced our island infrastructures, leading to the pollution of our once pristine waterbodies, and damaging the reefs that we depend on for food and shelter from storms. The cost of living went up as the demand for constructing new buildings outpaced the ability to bring more power and water generation online.

With our years of experience, a problem-solving mindset, deep connections, and undying love for our home region, our goal is to ensure that future generations throughout the region will not have to endure the same trials as us.

Our Mission

We aim to help small developing islands bring back their beauty. In doing so, we aim to help them become more resilient in the face of climate change, more future-proof in the face of global instability, and more autonomous by converting waste streams into valuable resources that can empower local communities instead of burdening them.

How?

A circular future for islands is a future where everything imported or locally produced has its place in the ecosystem to perform various functions multiple times over. Additionally, it involves improving the efficiency of energy and water usage throughout the islands. We offer our Engineering, Project Management, and Project Coordination services to Government Entities, Utilities, and Engineering Companies to hear them achieve their goals within these sectors.

However, the production of waste - which can be minimized - is still unavoidable. Yet, even here we believe that it can be given another life while minimizing its impact on the environment. Following this belief, SoualiGas has started its own Research & Development department to find ways to solve this, and we believe that we have found the solution: Waste Gasification-to-X.

Through careful selection of Waste Gasification Technology, we aim to breakdown waste into syngas (a mixture of H2 and CO), and solid carbon. While the carbon can be sequestered, the syngas can be used to create low emissions energy, methanol, and/or SAF, allowing us to help reduce our imports of Fossil Fuels, while making the use of syngas a net-negative carbon emissions alternative.

These (by)products of waste could instead contribute to local manufacturing, environmental remediation, renewable-sustainable energy, and agriculture to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Learn more about the goals we aim to contribute to below!

Learn more about Gasification

  • SDG 1

    Within this Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) there is a spotlight on reducing the cost-of-living crisis. SoualiGas aims to support this reduction by transforming energetic “waste” materials into electricity or fuels and selling these commodities at a fixed (stable) price point below the current market value. This reduction in cost can reduce the cost-of-living burden.

  • SDG 3

    A target within this SDG is to reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution, and contamination. As SoualiGas aims to remedy the landfill situation as well as incoming waste streams, our work directly reduces the release of hazardous chemicals, prevents further water and soil pollution, and aims to restore the environment in the area.

  • SDG 6

    Here, the aim is to improve water quality by reducing pollution and eliminating the dumping of hazardous chemicals and materials. SoualiGas views all waste as valuable resources and thus wishes to transform and reuse these materials for the benefit of the island. This keeps waste chemicals and materials out of our waters and our environment.

  • SDG 7

    A huge motivator for the creation of SoualiGas was to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy. While electricity production from waste syngas may not seem to be a “green” solution, it in fact diverts landfill methane from the atmosphere, reduces fuel imports, and generates electricity at a cheaper price with a lower CO2 footprint than the status-quo.

  • SDG 8

    The process of waste-gasification produces two product streams: syngas production and solids. The syngas can be used to produce fuels, energy, hydrogen, and fertilizer. The solids can consist of various (precious) metals, pure carbon, and glass. These commodities have value and SoualiGas will require local partners and businesses who can make the most out of these materials.

  • SDG 9

    Gasification is a sustainable, low impact method to deal with waste. It produces quality materials for industry and can become considered a vital infrastructure asset to the island. With a near-zero CO2 footprint and the ability to inspire spin-off businesses for solid and gas commodities, SoualiGas also has the ability to scale and support other islands in the region in this united fight.

  • SDG 12

    As alluded to in previous goals, responsible consumption and production is one of the core tenets of SoualiGas. By transforming waste into useful products, the island can become its own producer of goods. This grants the island some time to reform and implement methods for responsible consumption. Our aim is to be a vital part of the Circular Economy that will be built.

  • SDG 13

    As climate changes increases the frequency and strength of storms, SoualiGas’ systems stand ready to deal with the aftermath of such storms. Additionally, with gasification being a CO2 reducing process, we are not only ready to deal with the consequences of climate change, we are actively trying to reduce climate change.

  • SDG 14

    By gasifying waste, we prevent major chemical and material waste streams from ever entering our ponds, lagoons, seas, and oceans. We also believe that by producing affordable energy from waste, we encourage our communities to dispose of waste properly as it has a direct impact on the cost-of-living of each individual.

  • SDG 15

    Our long-term aim is to remove, or at a minimum, reduce the impact of the landfill on the terrestrial environment. By doing so, we ensure that biodiversity can recover in the affected area, and that life on the island improves for all its inhabitants, human or not.
