  • However, as tourism took hold as the economic pillar, the infrastructure for simple living could not keep up. Waste generated needed to be placed somewhere.

  • As economic growth outpaced the ability to implement new infrastructure, these islands have become burdened with waste and can no longer carry pristine environments.
